‘Goblin Mode’ Is Oxford Dictionary’s , 2022 Word of the Year.

According to the Oxford Dictionary, "goblin mode" is , "a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.".

For the first time ever, people voted for the word of the year online.

Oxford told voters to pick a word that summarizes "the ethos, mood or preoccupations of the past twelve months.".

The top three results were goblin mode, metaverse and #IStandWith.

Goblin mode secured 93% of the votes.

Given the year we’ve just experienced, ‘goblin mode’ resonates with all of us who are feeling a little overwhelmed at this point, Oxford Languages President Casper Grathwohl, via statement.

Merriam-Webster's word of the year was "gaslighting.".

Last year, Oxford selected "vax" and Merriam-Webster chose "vaccine."
