Singapore hopes for constructive US-China relationship amid inevitable competition: Dr Balakrishnan

China has expressed its interest in multilateral efforts like the digital trade pact Singapore inked with New Zealand and Chile, as well as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) mega free trade agreement.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi has wrapped up his two-day visit to Singapore.

Singapore Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan outlined how the US has created many opportunities for the region but added the biggest question now is how China's rise will affect the relationship with the US.

He said Singapore hopes for a constructive relationship between the two, even amid inevitable competition.
