Canada: PM Trudeau and Ontario Premier Ford on Nokia's Ottawa expansion, Emergencies Act – October 17, 2022

At a news conference in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford announce Nokia's $340-million project to transform its facility in Ottawa into a research and development hub to advance 5G wireless technology in Canada.

They are joined by Nokia representatives Pekka Lundmark (president and CEO) and Jeffrey Maddox (president of Nokia Canada), federal minister François-Philippe Champagne (innovation, science and industry), provincial ministers Vic Fedeli (economic development, job creation and trade) and Merrilee Fullerton (community and social services and the MPP for Kanata–Carleton), as well as Jenna Sudds (Liberal MP for Kanata–Carleton) and Jim Watson (outgoing mayor of Ottawa).

The project will receive up to $72 million from the three levels of government.

The prime minister faces questions from reporters on Canada's sanctions on Iran, while the premier is asked about the inquiry looking into the federal government's use of the Emergencies Act.
