PM: We’ll fit handover around the Queen

The Queen will not travel to London next week to swear in the new prime minister, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak will have to travel to Her Majesty’s summer residence of Balmoral on Tuesday 6th September.

The Queen would ordinarily hold an audience with outgoing and incoming prime ministers at Buckingham Palace.

Boris Johnson said that the arrangements for the handover will “fit totally around” the 96-year-old Monarch.
