Late in 2021, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy called attention to the issue and promised to provide every American child with, โ€œaccess to high-quality, affordable and culturally competent mental health care.โ€.

A global study of 80,000 children found that, "depressive and anxiety symptoms doubled during the pandemic.".

According to that study, there was also a 51% increase in the number of suspected suicide attempts by adolescent girls in the U.S. .

Last week , President Biden promised to , โ€œtake on mental health.

Especially among our children, whose lives and education have been turned upside down.โ€.

Supporters of the new funding hope the increased attention will shed light on the inadequacies of a mental health infrastructure unable to handle the current crisis.
