2022 Mazda MX-30 walkaround
2022 Mazda MX-30 walkaround
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 is the first electric car from the Japanese automaker.
It's based on the same platform as the Mazda3 and CX-30, but has unique coupe-like styling and two full front doors coupled with two rear half-doors, and of course the electric powertrain.
That powertrain consists of a single, front-mounted electric motor making 143 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque.
Power goes through a single-speed transmission to the front wheels only.
The 35.5-kWh battery provides about 100 miles of range.
To help make up for the limited range, Mazda offers a $500 credit toward buying a Level 2 home charger or for paying for public charging.
It also has a program that lets MX-30 owners borrow any other Mazda model for up to 10 days a year for trips that require more range or space.
It goes on sale in October in California, with more states coming next year.
Mazda will also launch a plug-in hybrid variant in 2022.
