Optician appointment saves teen from potentially deadly malignant brain tumour

A mother has praised the work of an optician who potentially saved her son's life, after a check-up led to the discovery of a potentially deadly brain tumour.

Sophie Huggett, from Eastbourne in East Sussex, first spotted signs of her sonโ€™s condition when she noticed 13-year-old Daniel squinting at the screen during his online lessons.

She booked Daniel in for a routine check up at Hailsham Specsavers on February 1, and the optician asked whether he had recently had a head injury.

The optician had found Danielโ€™s optic nerve behind both eyes to be โ€œcompletelyโ€ swollen and advised his worried mother to take him straight to A&E.
