In early trading on Friday, shares of Caterpillar topped the list of the day's best performing Dow Jones Industrial Average components, trading up 2.7%.

Year to date, Caterpillar registers a 19.7% gain.

Year to date, Caterpillar registers a 19.7% gain.

And the worst performing Dow component thus far on the day is Microsoft, trading down 0.5%.

Microsoft is showing a gain of 24.1% looking at the year to date performance.

Two other components making moves today are Salesforce.

Om, trading down 0.3%, and Goldman Sachs Group, trading up 2.7% on the day.
