The farm animals were grazing by the river when the water overflowed and trapped them in Chiang Klang district, Nan province on June 14.

Farmers called the emergency services for help and rescuers arrived with a boat to reach the animals.

They tied thick safety ropes around their bodies and the cows were pulled towards higher ground with the boat guided them to safety.

Resident Nathaya Phiban said: โ€˜The water level kept rising quickly until the farmers could no longer take their cows.

We were glad the rescuers arrived immediately.โ€™ Three rescuers went into the water to tie the rope around the cows, while their colleagues were on the bridge pulling a separate rope attached to the boat to prevent it from being swept by the water.

The operation last for almost two hours which successfully saved all three cows.

No one was hurt and the animals were uninjured.

They were then returned to their owners.
