Shocked sightseers get chased by a giant angry hippo in Lake Victoria, Kenya
This terrifying footage shows the moment a group of sightseers took a boat out to look for hippos - only to end up being CHASED by one of the huge animals.Dicken Muchena, 27, and three of his friends hopped in a speedboat on Friday to go and see if they could spot any of the water-dwelling safari animals. But the group soon got more than they bargained for - when one of the hippos took a dislike to them being on the water, and gave chase after the speedboat.Hair-raising footage shows the massive animal gliding through the water in the wake of the speedboat - mostly underwater, but occassionally rearing its head to breathe as it continues to follow the boat. The shocking incident took place on Friday morning on Lake Victoria in Kenya, Africa.Dicken said: "We knew that the area was a harbour for hippos, and we wanted to set out to try and get some photos of them."Knowing full well that they are killer animals, we gave them a wide path and avoided getting too close."There were at least six hippos in that area, and many others on various other parts of the lake."However, as we were leaving, a huge, agitated hippo appeared from nowhere and charged at us, seemingly with savage motives."We never expected such a reaction, because it is quite a rare thing. "It was lucky we were in a speedboat.
After being charged at for at least four minutes, we could no longer see the animal trails, and we rushed to safety on shore."It was a narrow escape," Dicken added.Hippos can measure up to five metres in length and can weigh a whopping 1,500kg (235 stone). They are considered to be the world's deadliest land mammal, killing up to 500 people a year in Africa.
