New pyres set up at Delhi cremation grounds as COVID deaths surge

Due to the exponential surge in COVID-related deaths in the national capital amid the deadly second wave of the pandemic, crematoriums have become overcrowded.

To deal with the rising deaths, new pyers are being constructed at adjacent parks near several cremation grounds including in Gazipur and Sarai Kale Khan.

One of the ambulance drivers informed that people have to wait 3-4 hours in line with bodies.

2,771 new deaths were reported on April 26 across the country as the death toll mounted to 1,97,894.
