On April 19, the social media giant announced new tools for creating and sharing audio.

Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook wants to "treat audio as a first-class medium in the way that we treat photos and videos." .

One of its offerings is called Live Audio Rooms. .

It will be tested in Facebook Groups and later incorporated into Messenger, becoming available to everyone later this year.

Podcasts and another product called "Soundbites" will also be coming to the platform.

"Soundbites" will first be available to a select number of creators, allowing them to make short-form audio clips with captions.

Facebook intends for creators to be able to monetize these new audio tools.

A big part of the creator economy is that it's empowering individuals.

I think that's a positive trend in the world, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, via CNN
