New affordable apartments at Mayowood Acres

Help folks in the med city./// we're getting an inside look at some of rochester's newest affordable housing units.

Here you can see furniture is already being moved into these new studio apartments at mayowood acres.

The units are located in the former library and student center of crossroads college.

Staff hope nine of these apartments will be available next month... and expect eight more to be ready by late summer.

Jeff urban of bear creek development center says there is a lot of demand for affordable housing in rochester... where rent prices can be steep.

"our whole goal has been to keep our pricepoint reasonable, so people have some extra to do other things in life and pay other bills, and not feel so strapped with just their housing expenses, which can happen quite often in an economy in a hot market like ours."

Urban says these units are meant to be transitional... to help people get back on their feet after events like job loss or incarceration.
