Nickelodeon is planning on expanding the universe of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ and ‘The Legend of Korra.’ .

The network will be launching Avatar Studios, a subset completely devoted to creating new movies and animated series for the ‘Avatar’ franchise.

The studio will be run by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, creators of the original ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ series.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 19 years since we created 'Avatar: The Last Airbender.'

But even after all that time, there are still many stories and time periods in Aang’s world that we are eager to bring to life.

Their studio’s first project is reportedly an animated theatrical film scheduled to begin production this year.

That film and all future content will be released on Nickelodeon and in theaters.
