Recalling the tough opposition faced by Modi government during their failed attempt to amend the Land Acquisition Act 2013 passed by the then UPA government, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said his party had then successfully fought the Centre in Parliament and stopped PM Modi from "killing" the bill.
"We threw out the old British Bill and brought out a brand new Bill that guaranteed compensation and protection to our farmers...The first thing Narendra Modi ji did when he became PM was trying to kill this Bill.
We fought him in Parliament and stopped him from killing it," said Rahul Gandhi while addressing an audience in Kerala's Kalpetta during his two-day visit to the southern state in view of the upcoming assembly elections.
Gandhi made the speech in the backdrop of the farmers' protest against Centre's three new farm laws.
