Ten newborn babies died after a fire broke out at a hospital Maharashtra's Bhandara.
The incident took place at Sick Newborn Care Unit of Bhandara District General Hospital.
A doctor said that the infants were aged between a month and three months.
District civil surgeon Pramod Khandate said that the fire broke out at around 1.30 am.
Khandate added that there were 17 babies in the unit and seven were rescued.
A nurse, who first noticed smoke coming out from the neonatal section, alerted others.
Parents of deceased babies were informed, rescued newborns were shifted to another ward.
Khandate said cause of the fire in the four-storeyed building is yet to be ascertained.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray spoke to Health Minister Rajesh Tope and ordered a probe.
