Colonel who helped India secure Siachen dies

Colonel (Retd) Narendra 'Bull' Kumar, who helped Indian Army secure Siachen glacier, passed away on December 31 at Army Research and Referral (R and R) hospital.

Kumar was 87 and was suffering from several age-related ailments.

Colonel Kumar was instrumental in convincing India's military/ political leadership about the strategic importance of the Siachen glacier.

With inputs from Colonel Kumar's maps, Indian Army launched Operation Meghdoot in 1984, which secured the glacier and prevented it from an evident Pakistan aggression.
