Hundreds of locals on a small island joined a Christmas parade to a woman's house - to celebrate her 100th birthday

This is the festive moment hundreds of locals on a small island joined a Christmas parade to a woman's house - to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Centenarian Ellen Fadian celebrated the massive milestone, but because of coronavirus restrictions she was unable to have a big party.

She has spent her whole life living in Dooagh, on Achill, an isle on the west coast of Ireland - and her neighbours decided to rally together.

They organised a huge procession of over 100 cars to drive past her house and wish her a happy birthday.

Sean Molloy, 50, who filmed the event, said: "She's reared her whole family in the village, she's lived here all her life.

That's where she was born, in that house.

"It was a very important day for the village to recognise it, but we can't have celebrations like everywhere else, so some members of the village organised a drive by for her birthday.

"I would say there was about 130 cars and most cars were full of children and everything, there must have been 4-500 people all together.

"I enjoyed it, it was an amazing scene - especially in the day, every place in Europe was getting bad news yesterday and we were no different here, but it was a little light of joy in what would otherwise have been a fairly depressing Christmas.

"I can't believe all the shares and messages that have been coming in from all over the world, this was a small glimmer of joys in peoples lives."
