WHO Updates COVID-19 Face Mask Guidance.

The World Health Organization (WHO) updated the guidance for the first time in almost six months.

A mask alone, even when used correctly, is insufficient to provide adequate protection or source control, WHO, via guidance.

Other infection prevention and control (IPC) measures include hand hygiene, physical distancing of at least 1 meter, avoidance of touching oneโ€™s face, .., WHO, via guidance.

... respiratory etiquette, adequate ventilation in indoor settings, testing, contact tracing, quarantine and isolation, WHO, via guidance.

The WHO also advises that , "the general public should wear a non-medical mask in indoor shared workplaces, schools, or outdoor settings where physical distancing of at least 1 meter cannot be maintained.".

Unless indoor ventilation "has been assessed to be adequate," the WHO advises wearing a mask regardless of physical distancing.

The agency recommends that children under the age of five shouldn't wear a mask.
