These horrifying scenes of police baton charging peaceful demonstrators in Rawalakot area of Pakistan occupied Kashmir are not unprecedented but an exact reflection of what anyone who dissents or demands in the illegally occupied PoK goes through.

The people in this so-called Azad Kashmir which means free Kashmir have been living under suppressive clutches of Pakistan for more than seven decades.

A brutal police repression and other forms of human rights violations is a common and a recurring phenomenon for them.

They were thrashed indiscriminately because they had dared to hold anti-government demonstrations after being denied fundamental rights.

Pakistan occupied Kashmir is among those places where the term human rights finds no regards in the administrative dictionary.

The deep state of Pakistan army, which virtually controls the region resorts to excessive force to muzzle all forms of demands and demonstrations.

The law enforcement agencies are accused of carrying out severe human rights violations with impunity.

While the political class is said to be complicit in the crime, the judiciary too has been compromised lately, leaving people of the region with absolutely zero sense of optimism in the system.
