Tupelo High School is back for in-person classes

The high school is back in session after a 16-day break following high coronavirus case numbers inside.

Now school leaders work to find ways to keep students in the classroom because of coronavirus.

W-t-v-a's bronson woodruff joins us live from tupelo high school where students returned to class after a two-week break.

The flurries are falling and the students are back in class here at tupelo high school.

School administrators said an outbreak of the virus forced them to take the action the week before thanksgiving in hopes of curbing its spread.

Now the holiday is over and students returned to class for the first time in two weeks.

Tupelo high school principal art dobbs said last week's thanksgiving holiday made it a total of sixteen days students were out of school, including the three weekends.

Dobbs said students are doing an excellent job at wearing their masks and keeping distance when possible, but he added now it's more important than ever to remind them when necessary so that they can stay in school.

He explained that this is a day-by- day scenario and said the school is fortunate to have virtual learning to fall back on if they need it.

State health officials said coronavirus cases are increasing.

Principal dobbs said he feels confident the students will be able to grow through virtual learning if they have to send them home again..
