On Monday, the drugmaker announced the "exciting results" based on an analysis of trials in the U.K. and Brazil.

Because the vaccine can be stored at fridge temperatures, it can be distributed around the world using the normal immunization distribution system.

Was found to be 90% effective in one of the tested dosing regimens.

Pfizer and Moderna each reported earlier this month that their vaccines were about 95% effective.

Another benefit of the AstraZeneca vaccine is that it is cheaper than the other drugmakers' vaccines.

Pfizer's costs about $20 per dose, and Moderna's costs about $15 to $25 per dose.

AstraZeneca's vaccine, which has also seen high success rates in the elderly, costs about $2.50 per dose
