The parks and recreation department now has defibrillators here and four other locations to help with emergency situations.

Tupelo parks and rec director alex farned says the new defibrilators donated by the local hospital can help in life threating situations.

At the time farned says there were no defibrilators located at the park "that was a real wake-up call for all of us."

North mississippi health services ceo shane spees says the risk prompted the hospital to donate to different parks the devices give emergency crew time to respond while keeping someone alive "it shocks the system so it brings the heart back into rhythm."

He says with the new devices, the community can now feel a sense of comfort "they're certainly the best tool to have in those life-threatening situations."
