We talk to the father behind a fishing tournament fundraiser for the Meigs County bus crash victims.

One bait shop in meigs county is putting on a fishing tournament to raise money for those impacted by tuesday's deadly school bus crash.

News 12's brian armstrong finds out why this crash hits close to home for both the store owner and manager.

Really means a lot to me to be able to do this to be able to help raise money for the families involved.

Tuesday's bus crash resulting in the death of bus driver lisa dillard and a 7 year old girl hits close to home for hiwasse marine bait and tackle owner dustin lankford.

He says he thought his son was on the bus.

The bus involved is the one my son usually rides every day thanks for the good lord above he wasn't on the bus at that moment he was actually getting a ride from a friend.

Lankford says he and his wife haven't completely recovered from that initial sense of fear.

I remember when i got the call and was told that my son was on i just remembered a sense of just i just became motionless i almost collapsed lankford and his store manager bobby copeland agreed they needed to do something and they cane up with the idea for a fishing tournament benefit.

This fishing benefit tournament this is for you guys i could've been in the same boat with you guys it cost 60 dollars to enter and launch at sunrise from chester frost park.

The fishing community has rallied around the idea of a tournament to raise money.

Not only the fishers but also the local fishing shops.

We're all sort of competitors but if there's a need everybody just comes together this isn't the first time the fishing community has come together and ... knows that first hand.

His daughter was injuries in a serious accident.

10 or 12 years ago they rounded up brought us food make sure we had stuff and we are staying at the hospital.

Brian armstrong news 12 now the fishing benefit with be at chickamauga lake on december 5th, starting at sunrise and going until 3.
