Can you catch the coronavirus twice?

The issue of immunity after overcoming the coronavirus is a widely researched topic.

The vast majority of patients are thought to have some immunity against reinfection, lasting at least for the intermediate term.

It has been reported, however, that a healthy 25-year-old man from Nevada tested positive for the coronavirus twice in 48 days, with swabs coming back negative inbetween.

Scientists concluded he had indeed been reinfected.

An 89-year-old woman from the Netherlands, who had cancer, is the first known patient to have died after catching the coronavirus for a second time.

Experts have stressed a waning immune response is concerning when it comes to vaccine development.

They added, however, up to 23 confirmed reinfection cases have come to light worldwide, out of over 38 million known coronavirus incidences since the outbreak emerged โ€“ a โ€œtinyโ€ proportion.
