UP DGP meets Hathras victim’s family, ‘no comments’ over cremation controversy

Uttar Pradesh DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi met the family of the Hathras gang-rape victim on Saturday.

Awasthi was accompanied by other senior police officers.

This is Awasthi’s first meeting with the family after the incident.

The UP DGP did not comment on the controversy over the cremation of the gang-rape victim.

The family alleges that the last rites of the victim were performed without consulting them.

Earlier, the local administration had issued prohibitory orders for Hathras.

On Saturday, the media was allowed to enter the village and meet the victim’s family.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were on their way to meet the family.

This is the second time that the Congress leaders are attempting to enter Hathras.

The leaders were earlier stopped from moving towards Hathras.

Rahul and Priyanka were detained by Uttar Pradesh Police while they were on their way to meet the family.
