Now we're talking with sergeant first class brandon tedford from the army national guard.

Brandon, thank you so much for talking with us this morning.

Sfc brandon tedford: thank you, i appreciate having the opportunity to be here.

Eric crosswhite: you bet.

We really wanted to get out some of the advantages right now to joining the army national guard.

What do you want to talk about?

Sfc brandon tedford: right now there's more benefits than there has ever been before in the army national guard.

We provide basically the buzzwords right now is free education, free college, great health insurance with tricare and it's super cheap.

I know that's a big thing for young people too.

20 year retirement, federal tuition assistance for college, the gi bill actually paying for college.

There's a lot of stuff right now and it's all part time service.

And i think a lot of people don't realize that the guard is part time one weekend a month, two weeks during the summer and yet you get all of those benefits i just spoke about.

Eric crosswhite: all right.

And not all that much amount of time that you're devoting, but the things that you'll be able to do, it's a great service.

Sfc brandon tedford: yes, it is.

We serve our communities.

The people here in columbus and the golden triangle, they probably pass by a national guardsman in civilian clothes on a daily basis because they're throughout the communities.

We live in our communities.

We work in our communities and we go to drill weekends and see each other on drill weekends.

We have business owners that are in the guard.

We have managers of companies that are in the guard.

Networking is huge in the guard.

These are people that you see on drill wipe to weather
