Their fight against climate change.

I talked with students who have been involved in the climate stikes in west lafayette ... and now they have a new initiative that will get the whole state involved.

Climate change continues to be a topic of discussion not only across the county but amoung today's youth.

"i feel like we are the first generation to really get to know climate change and i think it's so important the future generations know this is an issue and it should be engrained in to them as much as everything else."-lily the students from west lafayette junior senior high school that have been involved with the climate strikes are now taking their advocacy to a new level.

"the goal is to basically form a statewide coalition where we can directly talk to our legislators and bring up important bills that we want to get passed."- annabel the coalition will be called confront the climate crisis.

The students say they want the coalition to expand past west lafayette so all hoosiers can be informed about the ways climate change is being legislated in indiana.

"different legislators can come to us and be like this bill is going to pass this bill is not good or this bill is doing really good so we need to raise support around it so then we can get the information about what's going on at the state house out to everyone."-ethan while this is a topic these students are passionate about "we just see that school administrations in our area are super resistant to sustainability efforts i feel like that really has to change because campuses contribute so much to the waste problem here."-lily it's something they hope all lawmakers will start to take seriously.

"we do want our legislators at the state house to call the crisis what it is as a crisis and declare a climate emergency because we haven't seen that kind of acceptance of the crisis over at the state house."-annabel the students are holding their kick off event for the new alition this friday from 7-8 pm via zoom.

We will have a link on our website wlfi dot com where you can register to attend.
