Hurricane Sally makes landfall on Alabama's Gulf Coast

[NFA] The slow-moving storm brought winds of up to 105 miles per hour and threatened devastating rainfall.

Hurricane Sally came ashore on Alabama's Gulf Coast early Wednesday morning as a Category Two hurricane.

Winds were clocked at 105 miles per hour.

The National Hurricane Center said the storm also poses the risk of "catastrophic and life-threatening" flooding along portions of the north-central Gulf Coast.

Slow-moving Sally made landfall near Gulf Shores, Alabama, and was crawling toward the Alabama-Florida border at 3 mph.

Its winds and rains are forecast to stretch from Mississippi to the Florida Panhandle.

On Tuesday (September 15) some residents evacuated, others battoned down the hatches to weather it out.

The NHC earlier said the hurricane could bring more than 2 feet (60 cm) of rain to some areas as it creeps inland.
