Businessman donates four-metre tall Spider-Man statue to Buddhist temple

A wealthy businessman has donated a four-metre tall Spider-Man statue to be displayed inside a Buddhist temple in Thailand.

Buddhist monk Boonlerd Techapayo said the millionaire gave the 2,000lbs model to the Wat Tham Khao Pina temple in Trang, southern Thailand, last week.

Footage shows priests and Buddhist devotees converging on the impressive sculpture while a boy touches the Spider-Man figure to compare his size with it on September 10, days after it has been installed on the place of worship.

Monk Boonleerd said the businessman, who wants to be anonymous, believes that giving a replica of the iconic Marvel Comics cartoon character is "of the greatest holy virtues" he could do.

He said: "It is like a strategy to welcome more people to visit the temple.

All ages can pray and practice the dharma anytime." The Spider-Man, or Spiderman, superhero figure inside the temple continues to attract visitors and tourists who are curious to see the unusual statue inside the religious place.
