Journalist shot dead in Ballia over property dispute, 3 people arrested

A journalist was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district over a property dispute. The journalist, identified as Ratan Singh, reportedly worked in a Hindi news channel.

According to the police, the journalist was involved in a property dispute with his neighbor and village head.

The shooting was preceded by an argument over a disputed piece of land between the two sides.

Three people considered to be the prime accused have already been nabbed and a hunt is underway for the other people involved in the killing.

‘Although the deceased was a journalist the incident does not involve anything related to journalism.

It is completely about the land dispute between the two parties,’ Subhash Chandra Dubey, DIG Azamgarh said.

The incident happened in Phepna village of Ballia district on Monday evening.

Police rushed to the spot after they received information and nabbed the three accused.

Reports suggest that cross FIRs had been registered by the two families against each other in 2019 as well, but that matter was reportedly settled later.
