Lorry's wheel flies off after hitting pothole on badly maintained Thai road

A lorry's wheel came loose and crashed into a parked car after hitting a pot hole.

The chassis on the six-wheeler truck snapped and the tire flew off while travelling on the badly maintained road in Samut Sakhon, central Thailand on August 17.

Dashcam footage taken by a motorist travelling behind truck scraping to a stop after collapsing on the bumpy road.

The loose wheel smashed into a pickup truck parked on the roadside.

Lorry driver Narongdesh Kwanket, 42, said he was delivering boxes of vinegar to a warehouse in neighbouring province Ratchaburi when he hit the pot hole.

He said: "I was driving on the road when I felt something snap down below.

The I saw that the wheel had come off.

Luckily no one was hit by the wheel even though it ran into another vehicle.'' The slipped wheel smashed a pickup truck parked in front of a nearby repair shop.

Suchat Sukperm, 49, the pickup truck owner, said he was relieved that nobody was injured but said he would make the driver and his company pay for the damage.

He said: "While I was waiting inside the repair shop, I saw a big wheel striking my car.

It left a huge dent in the rear end so it will cost a lot to repair.'' Traffic police visited the scene of the crash to watch CCTV footage and check the truck driver's paperwork.

Thailand is notorious for the poor state of its roads.

The country also has one of the highest rates of road accident deaths in the world.
