TSC Promotes Bus Safety As School Starts This Week

Week for many students across the greater lafayette area..

And that means we are talking school bus safety..

Dakota simon joins us now from the tsc transportation department with more..

Hey dakota..

Yeah hey there sam..

Just three days from now the busses in the lot here behind me are going to be busy..

As students from the tippecanoe school corporation start class..

And the corporation in conjuction with the lafayette and west lafayette community school corporations are asking drivers to look out for buses.

Students and young children will obviously be getting on and off the bus before and after school starting this week.

Drivers unaware of a school bus while driving could face a pretty big fine..

Tsc transportation director greg haltom speaks about the importance of being aware at all times.

Especially while children and school busses are on the local roadways.

Greg -- be alert to what's out there, know that the busses are going to be out and traveling roadways we are going to be making stops, we are going to be picking up children.

And to be mindful of the stoparms and just to make sure you are driving in a safe manner as you can when those kids are getting on and off the bus.

Fines for not stopping while a school bus is stopped generally cost around 230 dollars that's according to the tippecanoe county clerks office..

Haltom says that tsc will transport right around 8 thousand students on 125 different busses every school day..

So a lot of student traffic picking up at the end of this week..

Reporting live in lafayette..
