First-generation Ford Bronco to 2021 Bronco

Vehicle design often starts out as 2D sketches and then progresses to 3D clay models, the process for the 2021 Ford Bronco SUV began a bit differently.

The design for the recently revealed Bronco was inspired by Ford VP of Design Moray Callum’s personal 1976 Bronco and the design process began by using 3D scanning technology on his classic SUV.Ford 3D scanned Moray’s Bronco to capture all the design details.

The 3D scanner captured the smallest details, even imperfections in painted surfaces down to thousands of a millimeter.

Then, using virtual reality, they were able to compare Callum’s Bronco side-by-side with the new Bronco iterations via Oculus VR headsets.
