Demand on food pantries has been high since the coronavirus pandemic began.

The state of iowa has come up with a unique idea to get more beef to families who need it.

"* nick?

Xxx george and katie ?

"* farmers ae having trouble finding a market for their cattle and food pantries are always looking for beef.

The 'beef up iowa' program is an attempt to solve both problems. earlier this afternoon, iowa's agriculture secretary mike naig stopped here at the northwood community center as they were getting their shipment of 100 pounds of ground beef.

The beef came from a local producer here in worth county and was processed by students at iowa state university.

Secretary naig says he has big goals for the program.

Xxx we're thinking big.

We want to see at least 50 thousand pounds of ground beef distributed all across the state.

Right now, today, we're marking the first deliveries.

Just two thousand pounds delivered across the state.

The program is getting it's funding from the federal cares act.

Distribution of the beef is done by the iowa food back association.
