Eugene Family YMCA in full Summer Care swing

This year, the Eugene Family YMCA has changed a lot about their summer camp program, including changing the name to Summer Care.

Will probably be like you never witnessed before - as camps make changes to keep kids entertained while keeping them apart.

Kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome spoke with y- m-c-a counselors and kids about what's different and what will never change.

This year, the eugene family ymca has changed a lot about their summer camp program, including the name... to "summer care maritza ruiz : "everybody gets their own kiddie pool when we bring out the pools for them to sun bathe in.

We have sprinklers for them to play in where they you know have to do their best to practice that physical distance, but the sprinklers are going wild for them so they're still having a blast" changes that aren't always easy, but needed.

Maritza ruiz: " i think when you look at the larger picture it's the right thing to do ."

And staff wear facemasks at all times indoors and out -- even before it was mandated by the governor and even things they were doing already, like handwashing have been ramped up because while they want the kids in their care to have fun, they need them to stay healthy emma jerome: " when usually groups of 50-60 kids would be allowed to play together this year that number is capped at 10... and the kids that have been playing with one another will be staying with one another for the week nelson: "it's difficult for me because i'm used to giving people i've seen a while ago hugs" but even will all that's different -- one thing remains the same nelson: " i really like summer camp because you get to meet a lot of new people and you have a bunch of fun:" summer care runs week by week and is going on until august 28th all high
