A dad has turned his garden shed into a proper SAUNA for less than £500 - complete with ice plunge bath and searing hot fire.Dariusz Wietecha used to start each day with a workout followed by lengths in the pool - so was looking for a new challenge when the gym shut.He decided to build his own sauna in his back garden and managed to make the entire thing from recycled and salvaged materials.The 100-day project saw him traverse local rivers and forests for flat stones for the sauna's floor, wood, and old bricks that came from abandoned cotton mills. An old log burner provides the 104 degree heat, and an old whisky barrel was repurposed as an ice bath.Now, the former tool shed is a serene sanctuary of peace, with Shamanic music emanating from Bluetooth speakers and LED lights bordering the walls.In total the project came to just £420, as most materials were either recycled or sourced from nature. Sport massage therapist Dariusz now loves his daily chill out in his shed in Rochdale, Manchester, which reaches an impressive 80% humidity.He said: "For active people, lockdown made us feel even more isolated and trapped."I had to do something to keep my brain and soul working." He said he got the idea while having his morning coffee, and started work on March 23 - the day lockdown was announced, despite having no DIY experience.Luckily, his wife Beata, 43, and daughter Emilia, 17, were also onboard with the endeavour.He added: "They know that I always finish everything I set out to do."Dariusz is hoping that the ice-cold bath element of his sauna will help him prepare to swin across the English Channel with his friends next year.
