Dense locust swarms cover farms and villages in northwest India

Dense swarms of locusts entered Rajasthan in northwest India, spreading fear among local farmers.

Officials from an Agriculture Ministry's Locust Warning Office stated a new swarm had entered Sriganganagar on June 21, with four more swarms entering Nagaur on June 20.

In footage shot on June 25, the locust swarms can be seen swarming through a residential colony in Nagaur.

Breeding has also been reported in multiple areas of Rajasthan despite extreme measures being taken by the state government to control the invasion, which includes over 400 tractors mounted power sprayers, and 53,000 litres of chemicals protecting plants, under a World Bank-funded project.
