Hundreds march in Madrid to voice anger at government's handling of coronavirus

Hundreds of protesters marched through the Spanish capital on Saturday (June 27th) banging pots and pans to voice their anger at the government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

The protesters called on those joining the march to wear masks and maintain social distancing.

The protests, which began in the upmarket Salamanca neighbourhood over strict lockdown rules preventing exercise, have been caricatured and mocked online as a "posh revolution." Social media users began the hashtag #CayeBorroka – a play on words on the posh boy’s name Cayetano and kale borroka, the urban guerrilla actions carried out by Basque nationalist youth in the 1980's and 1990's.
