Athletic director david bertram is looking ahead to the next step in his career.

Bertram has announced he will be leaving cooperstown high school to take on a similar role at mohonasen central school district in rotterdam next month.

He spent 16 years as the coach of the hawkeyes varsity boys basketball team - and 18 as the varsity tennis coach - prior to stepping down to assume the a-d role for the school two years ago.

During his tenure as the hoops coach - bertram had 256 career wins and five sectional titles.

For tennis - he went 240-15 with eight sectional titles.

Earlier tonight - i spoke to bertram to get his thoughts on what he called a bittersweet move.

David bertram: it's exciting obviously i have a lot of connections to cooperstown with 21 years here.

When the mohonasen job came up i really investigated the school and it really emulated cooperstown.

They do a lot of community service work, they respect their athletics but also they hold their academic standard very high and that's why our kids are there first for the academic reasons and then their facilities are beautiful, they're putting in a lot of money, they have a turf football field with whites in the baseball fields have been all refurbished so we are excited.

Moving from c school to an a school is definitely going to be a challenge with more athletes participating, it's going to be fun.

Bertram is tentatively slated to begin at mohonasen on july 23.
