Patient fatally shot after killing hospital guard in Munster

The patient was at Community Hospital in Munster when he began beating a nurse about 1 a.m., Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez told The (Northwest Indiana) Times.

A retired lake county sheriff's deputy is shot and killed by a patient while working security at a hospital in munster.the shooting happened around one this morning.deputies say the patient, 22-year-old "jamal williams" beat a nurse at hospital and two retired sher officers working hospital security responded and a struggle began.

Deputies say williams took a gun from one of the guard's belts and shot 59-year-old "ryan askew," resulting in the other guard shooting the patient.an hospital employee says the security guards are always helpful.

The shooting remains under investigation.
