On this day in the year 1774, Rhode Island introduced anti-slavery law that put a ban on import of slaves.

This was the first British colony in North America to do so.

In the year 1920 US Post Office made it illegal to send kids via parcel post.

In the early days of the parcel post, some parents took advantage of the mail in unexpected ways and sent their kids to other places through mail.

In the year 1955, on this day USSR's first diamond mine 'Mir Mine' was discovered.

The diamond-bearing deposits were discovered during the large Amakinsky Expedition in Yakut ASSR. They found traces of the volcanic rock kimberlite, which is usually associated with diamonds.

This finding was the second success in the search for kimberlite in Russia, after numerous failed expeditions of the 1940s and 1950s.

In the year 2002, United States of America withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty of 1972.
