Firefighters rescue peacock from 24-metre-deep well in southern India

A peacock was rescued from an 80-foot (24 metre) deep well in agricultural land by the firefighters in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The incident took place in Valliyur of Tirunelveli District on June 7.

Video of the rescue shows a firefighter is going down into the well with safety gear to rescuing the bedraggled bird.

According to local reports, the owner of the agricultural land, on noticing the bird struggling, called the fire department officials who arrived at the spot and rescued the peacock immediately.

The peacock was later handed over to the forest department.
