Manipur govt sets up quarantine centres for transgenders

Manipur government has set up a dedicated quarantine centre for transgenders in Imphal.

For the first time, the Department of Health and Family Welfare has set up two institutional quarantine centres for transgender people.

A separate wing for transgender people has been be set up at the quarantine centre at Maria Montessori Higher Secondary School in Imphal East's Koirengei area.

"This facility will house those transgender people who return from Red zones," said Mala Lisham, Programme Officer, Social Welfare Department Government of Manipur.

In addition, a dedicated Transgender Quarantine Centre has also been set up at Government ldeal Blind School in Takyel to quarantine those coming from Green zone.
