Don't let coronavirus make us paranoid, advises actor Matthew McConaughey

In a Twitter video the Oscar-winner encourages people to take care of each other and says he hopes the crisis will help unite society.

Actor Matthew McConaughey has posted a video on his Twitter account advising people not to get paranoid during the coronavirus outbreak and expressing his hopes that the virus may have a positive impact on society.

In the video posted on Tuesday (March 17), the Oscar-winning U.S. actor urged people to take care of themselves and those around them.

"Right now, more than ever before, we're all more dependent on each other than we ever have been.

We have an enemy in coronavirus that is faceless, that is raceless, sexless, non-denominational and bipartisan.

And it's an enemy that we all agree we're going to beat.

We want to beat and we're going to beat him," he said.

He went on to say that he hopes the crisis might unite society.

"There is a green light on the other side of this red light that we're in right now.

And I believe that green light is going to be built upon the values that we can enact right now.

Values of fairness, kindness, accountability, resilience, respect, courage, if we practice those things right now, when we get out of this this virus this time might be the one time that brings us all together and unifies us like we have not been in a long time," he said.

There are almost 200,000 cases of coronavirus across 164 countries and territories, a Reuters tally at 0200 GMT on Wednesday (March 18) showed.
