Wild Thyme- Peanut Butter and Apples

C1 3 here in the wild thyme kitchen.

Hope you guys are having a great afternoon.

I'm hanging out with april from april may health, and we're getting ready to have a healthy snack.

Plant based.

And you were just saying, you talk with a lot of your clients and the key to weight loss is not portion control.

April dutille: it is not.

It's exactly the opposite.

You got to eat.

You got to eat the right foods, you got to eat more often.

Allison davis: okay.

April dutille: yeah.

Many people have kind of messed up their metabolisms by thinking it's about pushing away and portion controlling and all that.

Allison davis: and fasting.

April dutille: yeah.

Allison davis: and starving yourself.

April dutille: i got to get you eating the right foods.

So one of the things that i really love has been this pb2 product.

My family eats it all the time.

It's great for putting into recipes, but this is a very simple way to be able to have a delicious snack.

Okay?

But here's the beauty.

Pb2, 85% of the fat's been extracted.

It's what's left after they take the peanut oil out.

Allison davis: okay.

April dutille: but if you buy the regular pb2, it's got a ton of sugar in it too.

This one i just found has erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol that absorbs higher in the gut so you don't get some of the negatives of some of the other sugar alcohols and it gives a sweetness.

Allison davis: and it's zero the glycemic index.

April dutille: zero glycemic, zero calories, and it doesn't taste weird.

Sometimes when you look to replace what you're used to in sugar, it doesn't taste right.

I love the erythritol.

So this has some erythritol monk fruit to sweeten it and it's delicious.

Allison davis: okay.

April dutille: so i was excited when i found this product on amazon and i had it shipped to my house.

So i wanted to share this little trick with you guys.

Allison davis: okay.

April dutille: add a little water.

Allison davis: and the apples, you've got red apples, so they're actually a little bit sweeter than your granny smith and you're getting some natural- april dutille: but you can do either one.

Yeah.

Allison davis: you're getting natural sugar just from the apples.

April dutille: yeah.

But in that intact form with fruit- allison davis: my daughter loves apples and peanut butter, i used to feed this to her all the time.

April dutille: in the intact form with fruit, you're getting all the fiber and everything else.

So don't be afraid of the sugars in that form.

That's a misnomer that you got to ... oh, don't eat too much fruit.

Intact, with all its fiber and nutrients, eat too much fruit.

Intact, with all its fiber and nutrients, it is fabulous for you.

April dutille: now look at that.

You can get whatever consistency you want.

Some people like it a little thicker, a little thinner, but this is right at what i like and it makes a perfect dip.

I'm going to try.

Allison davis: and this is great.

Again, when you're eating plant based foods, you still are looking for ways to get protein in your system, right?

April dutille: if you eat a well-designed plant based diet, you get all the protein that you need.

Allison davis: yeah.

So in two tablespoons of this, you've got two grams of fat.

A lot of people are watching those macros or whatever, but five carbs and eight grams of protein.

So this is great.

Then like you said, the sugars in this are zero on the glycemic index.

So this is great.

April dutille: it's good stuff and it tastes good.

Allison davis: it's really- april dutille: it doesn't have a weird aftertaste or anything.

Allison davis: no.

Really, really good stuff.

Great find, yeah.

April dutille: yeah.

Allison davis: all right guys.

Well we'll share this product with you guys on middaykentucky.com /recipes.
