Monitor it's never too early to start thinking about your future.

That's what students in houston middle school say as they kick off their 3rd- annual career expo.

Our stephanie poole spoke with a few students on their career choices, she has more on the story.

Standup intro - this room is filled with over 100 eighth graders and they all have an idea of who they want to be when they grow up.

" i want to be a welder."

John murphree is just an eighth grader.

But today his duties go beyond the classroom.

" i just want to teach these young kids out there about welding and what you have to do to be a welder.

Not a-lot of people want to do it anymore so i want to encourage some of these younger kids so we have more people being able to weld."

Murphree and his classmates are at a career expo, a part of graduation awareness month.

Students researched jobs, made displays, and even dressed in the attire of the profession they chose.

" i'm choosing a gynecologist because it's very interesting to me.

Woman bodies are very important.

I know it's a-lot of people in the medical field and i like to help babies and stuff so that's why i chose this career."

Graduation coach crystel ellison says the school decided use the program to help guide students into a positive path.

" we have guest speakers come in, we have our speech and drama class that does videos promoting character traits and skills that employers are looking for.

" i want to see every students graduate and that is our goal here at houston school district.

It doesn't start at the high school level, it starts in kindergarten, it starts in pre-k.

This is just as important for the first graders who are here, and the second and third graders that are coming."

And she hopes the experience will greatly impact students.

" i've been telling the little kids what's all in an obstetrician and gynecologist and how much money they can make and the outlook and determination that's in the job."

" i've done my good deed for the day to teach them something that i know and to pass on to their generation.

" standup tag- regardless of the job these middle schoolers choose to have, they just want to keep their futures bright.
