Police guard US Consulate General in Thailand amid heightened tension between the US and Iran

Police increased security at the US Consulate General in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, amid escalating tensions with Iran.

Officers have set up camp outside the entrance and are keeping 24 hour watch on the property amid fears or attacks from protesters.

Last week, the US killed top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani amidst suspected planned attacks on Americans.

Iran retaliated and on Jan 7 fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq where American troops are stationed.
