Murshidabad Violence: 3 Dead in Protests Over WAQF Act, Police Deployed, BJP MP Calls for AFSPA
Murshidabad in West Bengal witnessed violent clashes on April 14, 2025, resulting in three deaths linked to protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. West Bengal Police have arrested 150 people, and additional security forces have been deployed in affected areas like Samserganj, Dhuliyan, and Suti. BJP MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato has written to Amit Shah, requesting the imposition of AFSPA in four districts. The Calcutta High Court has also ordered the immediate deployment of central forces in Murshidabad to restore peace.
