The blaze, which started late at night, quickly engulfed the hospital, with firefighters valiantly attempting to control the flames. The Delhi Fire Services received a distress call at 11:32 PM and dispatched 16 fire tenders to the scene. The fire, which also affected a neighboring residential building, was eventually brought under control.
